Say you buy a $40 bottle at The Crystal Cork and then go back the next week for another. How many signatures does your Dixon Holiday Shopping Passport get?
One. The second bottle doesn't add anything. That one rule, along with a Dec. 15 deadline, decides how a downtown holiday season in Dixon is best spent this year.
One Signature Per Door
In 2026, Discover Dixon and sponsor Chris Hammitt State Farm took Shop Small Saturday, which used to be a single day, and turned it into a two-month Holiday Shopping Passport that runs Oct. 15 through Dec. 15. Spend at least $10 at a participating business and you get a signature. Each business can sign your passport only once. Discover Dixon set it up that way on purpose, so shoppers spread their spending across more stores.
Discover Dixon calls the signatures entries. The prize pool is $750 in Discover Dixon Dollars. Discover Dixon says passports are provided to each participating business. Completed passports go to the Discover Dixon office at 87 S. Hennepin Ave. by Dec. 15, and winners are drawn and contacted on Dec. 17.
Here's what that means in practice. Discover Dixon's page lists thirteen participating businesses. Filling every slot takes thirteen separate stops and at least $130 in total spending. The program started at Witches Night Out on Oct. 15, so by mid-November it has been running for about four weeks and has a little under five to go. The more of those stops you can make on a single trip downtown, the less driving it takes to fill the card.
Nine of the Thirteen Fit Into a Few Downtown Blocks
Most of the participating addresses are on West First Street and South Hennepin Avenue. The Dixon Historic Theatre is around the corner on South Galena Avenue, and the Discover Dixon office at 87 S. Hennepin Ave., where passports get turned in, is on the same stretch of Hennepin.

The other four participants are outside that downtown cluster. You'll need to drive to them or plan them into errands:
- Fresh Find Gifts, 1331 N. Galena Ave., buy one, get one 50% off, mix and match, on Shop Small Saturday
- Ken Nelson Auto Group, 1000 N. Galena Ave., whose listing reads "Every day is a sale!"
- Flowers Etc., 1103 Palmyra St., with discounts all fall and a Shop Small Saturday deal still to come
- Dog Trot Pottery, Dixon, 815-973-2819, 15% off all pottery for customers who show a passport on Shop Small Saturday
A few of these deals run longer than one Saturday. The Crystal Cork has Wine Wednesday and Thirsty Thursday specials through the whole passport window. At Salamandra, every purchase from Oct. 15 on enters you in a drawing for a basket, which will be given away on Shop Small Saturday. If you plan to eat at Salamandra anyway, going before Nov. 28 gets you into the basket drawing as well as the passport signature.
Nov. 28 Is the Busiest Day, and the Theatre Deal Mostly Points to Dec. 19
Shop Small Saturday on Nov. 28 is the only day nearly every participant has a specific deal posted. That makes it the most efficient day to fill several slots on one route, starting at Salamandra on First Street and working over to Hennepin.
The theatre's offer takes some planning. The Dixon Historic Theatre is giving 20% off holiday show tickets bought at its box office during Shop Small Saturday. The shows named in that deal are Prophecy, Santa's Circus and The Drifters Christmas. The Prophecy Show, billed as a holiday rock spectacular, plays Friday, Nov. 27, at 7:30 p.m., the night before the discount starts. The theatre canceled Santa's Circus back in March because of low ticket sales. That leaves The Drifters Christmas, Saturday, Dec. 19, at 7:30 p.m., as the show this discount actually lines up with. Buying those tickets at the box office on Nov. 28 also adds the theatre's signature to your passport while you're downtown.
Two Fridays Before the Deadline
The passport closes on Tuesday, Dec. 15. Two Friday evenings before then bring a lot of people downtown, and both fall inside the window.
Friday, Dec. 4: the Christmas Walk. Discover Dixon calls the annual Christmas Walk one of its premier events, with a history going back decades. It starts with the tree lighting and includes free photos with Santa, street performers, carolers and the Dixon Municipal Band. Downtown businesses plan their own deals and surprises for the evening. Discover Dixon's event listing has it running 5 to 8 p.m. Since the downtown shops are already open and busy that night, it's a good chance to pick up the First Street and Hennepin signatures you missed on Nov. 28.
The theatre's schedule that weekend:
- Saturday, Dec. 5, 7 p.m.: Dixon Municipal Band Winter Concert
- Sunday, Dec. 6, 3 p.m.: Elf
Friday, Dec. 11: Santa at the Cabin, then a movie. Santa visits the Old Settlers Cabin in Presidents Park from 5 to 7 p.m. Discover Dixon lists it as free and family-friendly. Miracle on 34th Street plays at the Dixon Historic Theatre at 7:30 p.m. the same night, half an hour after the cabin visit ends. Dec. 11 is also the last Friday before passports are due the following Tuesday.
The Week Before Christmas Comes After the Deadline
Two of the theatre's December shows play after the passport has closed:
- White Christmas, Friday, Dec. 18, 7:30 p.m.
- The Drifters Christmas, Saturday, Dec. 19, 7:30 p.m.
Spending at those shows, and any last-minute gift shopping that week, won't count toward the passport. The drawing will have happened on Dec. 17. For a full card, everything needs to be done by Dec. 15. The late-November weekend and the two early-December Fridays are the realistic times to collect signatures. The week before Christmas is still a good time for a show, but it adds nothing to the passport.
So the season runs in order. Shop Small Saturday on Nov. 28 covers the most stops in one trip. The Christmas Walk on Dec. 4 picks up the downtown shops you missed. Dec. 11 is a final Friday that pairs Santa at the cabin with a movie. The passport goes to 87 S. Hennepin Ave. by Dec. 15. With thirteen signatures available and only one per shop, a full card means you've been to every participating business at least once by then.
